Construction of a Modern Cemetry at Matari

On March 17, 2015 the Secretary General of the Municipality of Brazzaville notified the public of the immediate cessation of burials at the downtown cemeatry due to the lack of space. The Municipality is currently working on developing a new cemetery at Matari in order to address this problem.

In response to the Secretary General’s declaration, Hugues Ngouélondélé, personally visited Matari on Tuesday, June 2, 2015 to monitor progress on the development of a new cemetery. Undertaken by Franco Villa Iabeds Construction, the development of the new cemetery is already at an advanced stage. Spread over an area of 2500 hectares, Matari cemetery will be built to modern standards with improved sanitation conditions for burial and with precautions to prevent the type of landslides seen Itatolo cemetery.

Located in Ndjiri in the 9th arrondissement, site is expected to be in operation for more than 30 years. Constructed on a plateau, the Matari cemetery is close to the Moukondo in the fourth district of Moungali and Kombo in the 9th district. There is currently work being done on two entrances to the site to allow for easy access to the cemetery.
